Yesterday on my lunch hour, I came across an article about a woman who makes over $500,000 a year as a writer of porn erotic romance fiction. I don’t know, is it porn if it comes with a label warning of anal sex, bondage and lesbian sex? Whatever. I was intrigued; not about the sex part, but about how much money this woman makes as a self-publisher in this genre.
I didn’t read Fifty Shades of Grey. Maybe it was all the hype, but I had no desire to (no pun intended). Many years ago I read the Sleeping Beauty Trilogy written by Anne Rice under a pseudonym. She has since taken credit. There were three books and I read them back to back. Those, I would highly recommend. Whoa.
Anyway, as an aspiring writer, her yearly salary jumped out at me. I thought, how hard could it be to write that stuff? I thought I should do some research and buy one of her books for my Kindle. I looked on Amazon and found that the title mentioned in the article was only 99 cents. Great! I started to buy it, but then decided to wait until I got home and do it directly from my Kindle because I’m not sure how it works otherwise.
Shortly after I arrived to work this morning, one of the ladies in Accounting came into my office and asked if I had bought a book on Amazon with her credit card. I was a deer caught in the headlights. I thought, Did I? No. I bought that book last night at home on my Kindle. Didn’t I? Oh my god. She freed me from my momentary state of panic by telling me the title, which was obviously winery related. NO! I said with a little too much force. You see, I do quite often use her company credit card for winery purchases online.
Anyway, I left my Kindle at home today.
